Top 5 Furniture Ever Invented!

We all know what furniture is we sit on it, eat off it, and sleep in it.  Our human existence is dependent upon furniture for optimal survival. Furniture has been a part of human civilization since the development of non-nomadic cultures. Proof of furniture survives from the Neolithic Period and later in olden times in the form of paintings, such as the wall Murals discovered at Pompeii.

Additionally, sculptures and examples have been excavated in Egypt and found in tombs in modern day Turkey.

With the dawn of the industrial revolution, furniture evolved from unique hand crafted art to mass produced pieces.
In current times, furniture has evolved into so much more than the basics.

Now there is Contemporary, Eco-design, Art Deco, Modernism and much more categories of all types of furniture.
Because of this great evolution of furniture, I (the auspicious blog writer) wanted to appreciate the simplicity of traditional designs that still resonate and survived through modern times.

Here’s a look at the top 5 pieces of furniture ever invented:

Bed
What would we be without a good ole bed?  A bed is defined as a large piece of furniture used as a place for sleep and relaxation.  A bed usually consists of a mattress, box spring, and pillows to lay your head on.  Ancient beds were made out of straw or some other natural material.  The oldest description of a bed   was identified in Odysseus as a “charpoy of woven rope”, whatever that means.  As you may already know, there are countless types of bed available in various sizes.

Rocking Chair

Great for “rocking” a baby to sleep, a rocker is a type of chair with 2 curved bands of wood attached to the bottom of the legs which creates a back and forth motion.  The inventor of the rocking chair is unknown but many consider Benjamin Franklin as the inventor.  The rocking chair has taken on many different styles over time.  In the U.S., wood worker Sam Maloof became famous for modernizing this famous chair.

                                               Sofa (Couch)
The sofa, also known as a couch or ottoman, was designed to provide comfortable seating for more than one person.  There is not much history available about when the couch was invented or by whom.  Either way, we can very well determine that the couch being invented is great thing. Where else would intrusive relatives sleep on unannounced visits?

                                                   Kitchen Table
We specifically say kitchen table because, you guessed it, we eat off of it.  Who wouldn’t like furniture you eat off of?  A table is compromised of a flat surface supported by four base legs.  The earliest tables were used by the Egyptians and Chinese.  Unfortunately, their tables were made for pursuing the arts rather than eating.

                                                          Cabinets
The cabinet is our favorite piece of furniture at here at CabinetParts.com! Why? Because we sell cabinet parts, that’s why!  A cabinet is a boxed shaped piece of furniture either standing alone or built into a wall.  Its typically made of wood but in modern times can be made out of synthetic materials.

There you have it, the top 5 furniture pieces that have stand the test of time and evolution.
